Lists are owned by the people and companies that create them. In many cases, lists are maintained and marketed by management firms who receive a portion of the income generated by rentals. Almost all lists may be rented through list broker who is compensated by the list owners or managers.

Whether a list is rented from its owner or manager or through a list broker, the pricing is the same. The difference is that a broker should be able to recommend lists from several different sources and provide an unbiased description of the relative strengths and weaknesses of each list under consideration. Furthermore, an experienced broker should be able to custom tailor selections from any given list to meet your specific requirements.
