How to get upto $320 for your old iPad 2

Before the launch of ipad3, some sites are offering close to $300 for your entry-level iPad 2 (the 16GB Wi-Fi model), provided it was in “good” condition. Now they’re willing to part with far less: As of Saturday morning, if you’ve got a well-cared-for iPad 2, NextWorth will give you $241 for it. BuyBackMac is offering $224. eBay’s Instant Sale will net you $200. And Gazelle, the most popular of the buy-back sites, will only part with $185.

Sure, if you’re hurting for cash to subsidize your early adopter lifestyle, $200 is nothing to scoff at. But if I were you, I’d skip by all of these sites and instead log in to Amazon. As of right now, its trade-in service is offering $288 for a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 that has “normal wear,” and up to $320 for one in “like new” condition. Indeed, Amazon Trade-In’s lowest offer for an iPad 2 is $236, about what others are offering for “good” models. If your tablet isn’t water-damaged and is at least in working condition, you’ll get that baseline amount.

What’s going on here? Considering that Apple is selling new iPad 2s for $399, how can Amazon afford to shell out up to $320 for your old one? What’s it doing with all the iPads it’s buying? Is Jeff Bezos running a charity?

The trick is that you get an Amazon gift card which you have to use on amazon.com purchases. But still this is a good deal, isnt it?

RIM PlayBook on sale for $199 ($300 off)

RIM recently announced a massive $300 off its PlayBook tablet. The deal was met with such a strong response that the tablets are sold out at traditional outlets like BestBuy and Staples.

A colleague of mine found that discounted PlayBook units still available directly from the Blackberry website:

http://ca.shopblackberry.com/

Free shipping and if you apply promo code 09OLTY12 you get a further $10 off. Last I checked (3:30 PM EST, 24/11/2011) PlayBooks were still in stock.

MBNA Smart Cash

MBNA is offering a $50 rebate if you apply for and are approved for a Smart Cash credit card through Great Canadian Rebates. For the first 6 months the card returns 5% on purchases of gas/ groceries up to $600 spending per month. After 6 months the cash back drops to 3%. The card has no annual fee.

www.greatcanadianrebates.ca/display/Finance/

Great Canadian Rebates is a portal to which a number of merchants are linked. If you buy through them you receive a cash rebate. I suspect the merchants and site collect data on our spending habits, but I shop with credit cards, so my spending is already tracked. You can receive the rebate as a cheque or as payment to your PayPal account. I have no affiliation to Great Canadian Rebates except as a consumer.

If you plan to apply for the card anyways, why not get $50 for it?

TD Canada Trust offers upto $250 cash for new accounts

TD Canada Trust is once again offering up to $250 cash for customers opening new accounts. I took advantage of this last year as we were in the process of consolidating all our accounts under the TD roof anyways. If you are able to keep a $5,000 balance, the TD Select Service account provides excellent value:

- Unlimited banking, free cheque books, free bank drafts etc.
- Fee waived on the Borderless account.
- Fee waived on the TD Gold Elite Visa card. 1% cash back, Auto club membership and trip interruption insurance.
- A small safe deposit box.

It may not be worth your while to take advantage of this offer just for the $250 bonus because there is a lot of paperwork involved. But if you are planning to switch anyway, the cash is a nice bonus.

Details are available here:

Turbo Tax @ Costco for $28

1. Costco usually sells Turbo Tax Standard a couple of dollars less than retailers. On the weekend I saw it was on sale for $28 and change until March 1 or so. Between Feb. 17 & Mar. 3, Turbotax is $10 (off the list price of $39.99) off at Walmart, Costco, Loblaws, London Drugs, Shoppers, Staples, Best Buy & Future Shop. No coupon required.

2. TD Bank has a "deal" with Turbotax for $14.39 a return for the online version. The Costco sale is better value if you have more than 2 returns, or if you are adverse to storing your tax info in the cloud.

3. The Staples flyer has TurboTax on sale for $28.34. In also includes Quicken Cash Manager. (According to the add, a Staples exclusive.) Available until Feb 21.

Best Buy To Offer iPhone 3GS For Free On December 10th

BGR is reporting that according to their sources, Best Buy will be offering Apple's iPhone 3GS to customers for free tomorrow.

It looks like the offer is only valid for tomorrow, December 10th and is valid for customers who are looking to go for new lines, additional lines, or use their qualified upgrades.

BGR reports:

iphone babe We just received a tip from a Best Buy ninja of ours, and well, it seems that Radio Shack isn’t the only game in town in you’re looking for an Apple iPhone. Best Buy will be offering up Apple’s iPhone 3GS for free for one day only, this Friday the 10th. This offer is valid to both new lines, additional lines, and also qualified upgrades. We have been told that all stores have inventory levels to support the promotion, and it’s an instant rebate type deal.

Radio Shack is also offering a $50 discount on all iPhones until December 11th. Apart from offering a discount on off all iPhones, they are offering iPhone 4 for $25 with iPhone 3GS trade-in. This translates to iPhone 3GS for $50, the 16GB iPhone 4 for $150 and the 32GB iPhone 4 for $250.

If you were planning to buy an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 then tomorrow or Saturday is probably the best time to buy one. What do you think about Best Buy's offer? Are you tempted?
