One way to ensure you spend less money on gas is to buy less gas. Newer cars are supposedly more fuel efficient, but that doesn't mean your older car can't become more fuel efficient.
Have you changed your fuel filter recently? I know I'm over due to change mine (I have never changed it in all 80,000 miles I've put on my car) and I'm certain my fuel economy will rise once I change it. For example, I used to get 300-350 miles per tank of gas. These days, I get 250-300. My driving style hasn't changed much, and I keep the oil changed regularly.
Stay tuned for the results of this as soon as I get it done! My guess is a new fuel filter will lead to better fuel economy which means I can drive the same distance, but will need to buy less gas to do it.

I also faced this problem. I have changed filter so many times But my mechanic used to tell me that contineous usage of gas may lead to trouble to engine performance. I don't know how far this is currect.
