Earlier in the month, LiveSide had spotted a job posting, which indicated that Microsoft is planning to bringing their Xbox Live games to iOS and other mobile platforms rather than making them exclusively for Windows Phone.
According to the job posting, Microsoft was looking for developers with experience in Windows Phone, iOS, or Android development "to bring the latest and greatest gaming and entertainment experience to mobile platforms including Windows Phone, iOS and other mobile platforms."
If that was not enough evidence to confirm Microsoft's plan, couple of weeks back, a Microsoft spokesperson all but confirmed the news by telling Inside Mobile Apps that “while the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms.”
We won't be too surprised as Microsoft seems to have finally realized the potential of mobile platforms such as iOS rather than believing (or hoping) that iOS devices like the iPad was just a fad. It has recently released apps such as My Xbox Live, an updated version of OneNote to add support for Apple's iPad, SkyDrive for iPhone and surprised everyone by releasing popular Xbox 360 game - Kinectimals for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Microsoft didn't provide an ETA on when the Xbox Live games will be available for iOS and Android. Microsoft spokesperson told Inside Mobile apps:
“we are laser-focused on providing the best mobile Xbox Live experience to our customers, regardless of platform.”
We hope that in addition to the Xbox Live games, Microsoft also brings Office Mobile to iOS this year.
